Wound Awareness Week may be over for another year, but the momentum continues! Our free Be Wound Aware Education Series is now live. In this edition, find out what’s included, how to access the series, and catch up on the highlights from Wound Awareness Week.
Meet the Be Wound Aware Education Series
Whether you’re caring for yourself, a parent, a partner or a friend, knowing what to do when someone has a wound can feel daunting. That’s why we created the Be Wound Aware Education Series: short, simple videos from wound care experts that you can watch at home, at your own pace.
There’s no medical jargon, just clear, practical advice. After each video, you can take a quick multiple-choice quiz to check you feel ready for real-life situations. You can watch the videos in any order, whenever suits you.
Our four experts each have a short message for you. In these quick previews, they explain what they’ll cover in their training. Click the button below each video to head to the full training when you’re ready.

Isabella’s carer story
Isabella Fitzgibbon cared for her grandmother, Shirley, who was living with terminal mouth cancer. Isabella hadn’t expected the other wounds that came along, such as pressure injuries and skin tears. She struggled to find advice on products and treatments that could have eased Shirley’s final months.
“Since then I have found Wounds Australia and I’ve done what I can to share my experiences to encourage others to speak up about their wounds, and also to support education so that other non-clinical carers like myself can improve their knowledge and better help their loved ones.”
“I’ve been through the Be Wound Aware Education Series and what I learned about prevention measures like twice-daily moisturisation and product choice would have definitely helped me.”

Knowledge is power
“Knowledge is power when it comes to chronic wounds, so if we can empower carers and consumers with good, solid evidence that is easily accessible, then why wouldn’t we? And any improvement for the individual is an improvement for all because it reduces the burden on the system.”
– Professor Fiona Wood AO

Consumer-centred training
“The Be Wound Aware Education Series has been developed with input from the Consumer Advisory Group to ensure they are relevant, accessible and consumer-centred. By combining clinical expertise with lived experience, these resources support Australians to make informed decisions about wound care and encourage earlier engagement with appropriate healthcare services.”

Wound Awareness Week 2026 highlights
Under this year’s theme, SOS: Save Our Skin!, Wound Awareness Week (28 September – 4 October) took the message about wound prevention, spotting problems early and getting the right care into communities across the country. Wound Awareness Week may be over, but the work to save skin and reduce the impact of wounds continues every day.

Reaching every corner of Australia
Radio interviews were broadcast nationwide, including in regional and remote areas, where getting to a wound specialist can be harder and knowing the warning signs matters even more.

Morning teas and community events
Workplaces and community groups across the country got together over a cuppa to start conversations about wound care.

Keeping wounds on the national agenda
Assistant Minister for Health and Aged Care Rebecca White MP, Senator Kerrynne Liddle and Senator Carol Brown took part in events, helping make sure chronic wound care stays front of mind for decision-makers.

Talking about skin tears
At a special roundtable, health professionals, researchers and people with lived experience came together to explore how Australia can better prevent and manage skin tears.

Making the news
The launch of the Education Series was covered by 7NEWS, taking wound awareness into Australian homes.
